The 3,300-foot long Canton Viaduct is the 19-span bridge that connects I-895 Baltimore Harbor Tunnel with the I-895 mainline. Nearly 70,000 vehicles pass through the tunnel every day. The Viaduct was constructed in 1955 and 1957. The $189 million project to reconstruct the bridge will be competed in 2021 ahead of schedule.
The bridge crosses nine Norfolk Southern Railroad tracks, eight CONSOL Energy tracks, three CSXT tracks and three Canton Railroad tracks. Gary R. Anglemyer, MAI was retained by Maryland Transportation Authority in 2017 to develop eminent domain/condemnation appraisals of the permanent aerial and surface easements needed for the project. All acquisitions were made on time without any valuation disputes or challenges.
